i heart baggu

remember my reusable bag post (scroll down to jog your memory)? well i purchased the baggu bags and have been using them for the past month. i got 6 of them in fuschia, gray and aqua. i can't even tell you how much i love them! they are the greatest things EVER. i use them at the grocery store or even to carry my books around. the little pouch they come in is so convenient. when you're finished just fold them up and put them in their pouch and throw the pouch in our purse and you're ready for next time. i've received a few comments, the best being "you're saving the world." it does make me feel good to not consume so many plastic bags, although i still use a few. the bags are strong, hold a lot and are reasonably priced. I LOVE THEM!!

i'm back!!

i'm sorry i've been gone for so long. so much has been going on that i just haven't had time to blog. well, i just got home from the grocery store. it was an experience. i walked into my local A&P and guess who was literally standing right there? ICE-T!! to most people it probably isn't huge, but i LOVE LAW & ORDER: SVU!!! i was crushed that i wasn't wearing my L&O shirt (yes, i have one!) me and todd were pretty excited we semi-stalked him and coco throughout the store. i came home and googled him and see that he lives in the next town over. so pretty much me and ice-t are neighbors! i checked out his cart and he was buying apple jacks. oh and he yelled "yo, where's the kool-aid" so i guess he's buying kool-aid as well. i know you guys are as excited as me. i promise i'll get back to regular posting!

go international

summer is pretty much over which makes it odd that i'm just now looking for gladiator sandals. well, i've been searching for awhile but never had any real reason to buy a pair until a picked up a dress from targets go international line. i was going to talk about this when it first came out, but i was so disappointed that i just kept my mouth shut. everyone has raved about libertine being the best target line and i honestly don't see it. i don't care much for random screenprinted designs or skulls. i feel like i'm really missing something. i enjoyed proenza schouler's line when everyone else thought it was boring. but whatever. here's the dress, which i'm about to hem because i guess i'm unbelievably short. i thought for summer it'd look good with strappy sandals and in the fall with tights and flats?? what do you think? i'm thinking the middle pair since this is the 2nd time i've posted them. as i look at it i'm thinking about scrapping the entire idea and returning the dress.

thank you & have a nice day

i hate using plastic bags. not only do i have tons of them that i have no idea what to do with, they're terrible for the environment. i cringe each time i leave the store with a new one. it's estimated that we use over a million bags a minute. billions of these bags litter the oceans killing sea turtles and whales who mistake them for food. reusable bags just make sense. these days we have tons of bags to choose from. maybe too many because i can't figure out which ones to get!! i love susan bijl's colorblock tote, but am thinking about going with a baggu because they come with a pouch to store them in and are inexpensive. if you can't find one you like, you can always embellish or embroider your own!

some of my favorites

susan bijl colorblock shopping bag $24-$32
pre-order the baggu reusable shopping bag $6-$8
thank you tote $20
pre-order the "i'm not a smug twat" tote $40
the greatest of all time tricera tote $43

it's official!!

it's finally official, i'm moving!! i've been planning on moving to attend FIT, i just wasn't sure of the exact dates until now. last night we purchased our one way tickets to LaGuardia. we leave on August 15th! we were planning on moving to new york, but are now moving to NEW JERSEY. yaaaay!! i'm trying to be excited about moving to jersey, but i'll admit it's sometimes forced. i've created a list of some of the positives and negatives of the garden state. i'll share.

POSITIVE: $$$ - living in new jersey can be much cheaper than living in new york.
NEGATIVE: although i can see new york from my balcony, i won't be able to get in-state tuition.

POSITIVE: we have a washer and dryer in the apartment!!!
NEGATIVE: we live in brand new "luxury" apartments. for a lot of people that would be a positive, but i don't like new buildings and was looking forward to a tiny manhattan apartment.

POSITIVE: less than 10 minutes to manhattan. ferry ride is about 5 minutes on a good day.
NEGATIVE: the ferry. i'm not too fond of large bodies of water so a ferry does not entice me.

the main reason why new jersey wins is because we don't have to pay any apartment fees (ie first & last months rent, security deposits etc) because my roomie (boyfriend) works for the company. it seemed like a win-win situation. unless we absolutely love it in jersey, we'll only be living there for a few months.

thrifting 101

once a week i go thrifting. my main goal is to purchase stock for my store. i rarely try things on, or buy things for myself. but lately, after i've come home and gone through everything, i've found a few things i'm keeping for myself!

i'm really into leopard print. i got this cardigan for $1! i wore it monday and got a compliment from a crazy lady! i call her crazy, only because she tried to purchase it from me. i got a vintage dooney & burke bag. i tried to figure out it's authenticity but it's hard since it's a bit older. i just read in i think bazaar that everyone needs a bag with a long strap.

i've been really wanting one of those hideous patchwork bags from the 80s. but everytime i find one they're too small or too hideous. this black one is okay. it's not exactly what i was looking for (it's a bit too small for me) but for $2 i couldn't pass it up. i found these awesome boots for $1!! i was very excited when i got home and they fit. they're from L.L. Bean and are super soft inside.

i rarely buy or even look at jewelry, so i decided to take a peak. i found this wood cuff for $2.99 and this necklace for $1.99. both are out of my price range (if you can't tell i'm really cheap when it comes to thrifting) but i liked them so much i got them!

i wear my sunglasses at night

i'm usually always wearing a headband. it's not really because i love headbands, it's mostly because i'm trying to cover up the fact that i need a haircut. my stylist is a hundreds of miles away and i refuse to have anyone else touch it, so i'm waiting it out. i'm a little late to the turban craze, . i didn't really want to spend big money for a prada turban so with the help of this post i turned my vintage hermès scarf (thifted for $1.99) into a turban-ish head wrap! i think it'd look much better with bangs, but i liked how it turned out!

yes, i ALWAYS wear huge sunglasses and no, i am not trying to be nicole. i've been wearing big sunglasses for years. my first pair were kate spades when i was in high school, but i lost them only to have them returned only to lose them later that day. i then moved on to a thrifted pair i got for $1. they were huge and blue. i wore them for years and got tons of compliments. my favorite being "oooh i love your glasses. my grandma had a pair just like that!" those were replaced by my dior's i got last christmas. sunglasses are a good investment for me because i wear them as much as possible! if it's 8 at night and the sun is almost set, i'm wearing sunglasses. if it's a cloudy seattle day and the sun isn't even out, i'm wearing sunglasses. i don't take them off when i go inside. i'm one of THOSE people.

what in a box?

emmy nominations came out today and what's nominated? justin timberlake? no. dick in a box?? whaaat? seriously? i couldn't believe this saturday night live skit was nominated for an emmy. i guess i never even knew they had 'outstanding original music and lyrics.' unfortunately justin's episode was probably the best episode all season. there were tons of good sketches throughout the season, but they were also mixed in with a few downers (i miss debbie downer!) i love SNL and have religiously watched it for at least 12 years, but it's not like it used to be. maybe this nomination will give them the boost they need to make a comeback!

to refresh your memory

also nominated are some of my favorites, which will probably lose: heroes (outstanding drama), 30 rock (outstanding comedy), james spader (leading actor in a drama), tony shaloub & alec baldwin (leading actor in comedy), mariska hargatay & minnie driver (leading actress in a drama), & real time with bill maher. i sadly could go on for awhile-- i watch a lot of tv!

celebrity gossip: posh & becks

last night i watched nbc's victoria beckham: coming to america and must say that i love her. i've been indifferent in the past, but i have now succumbed to all that is posh spice. i've liked becks for quite some time. i find him quite handsome and very fashionable. my boyfriend LOVES soccer, so when real madrid came to seattle last year, i bought him tickets (6th row midfield). i know a lot of people don't like him, but he really has brought a lot to the football. and although he has the voice of a little girl i still like him.

back to victoria -- she is fierce and funny and my new favorite person. i don't really care if she's fake (although she seems genuine, but what do i know?!) i love her the same! i'm enjoying the rush of beckham gossip, because i'm so bored with the same paris & lilo shenanigans. i'm sure she'll piss me off down the line, but right now i adore her!

d'oh

it's been years since i've seen an episode of the simpsons. it used to be one of my favorite shows, but for some reason i stopped watching it. when i heard they were making a movie i didn't really care, but that was until i heard about 7-11's turning into kwik-e-marts!! this weekend me and todd finally visited the kwik-e-mart in seattle. it was pretty packed and the floors were sticky, but it was still awesome! we got squishees and pink frosted donuts! we even bought a box of krustyo's (which unfortunately are just fruit loops, i was hoping for something more interesting). this has to be one of the best marketing schemes ever. with this plus the spread in harper's bazaar i'm much more inclined to see the movie.

todd chillin with milhouse & bart

i had fun on the simpsons movie site. you can make your own characters! mine are boring since i tried to make them look like us (i guess we look boring!). the first one i made was the best, it had a big purple fro, which is how i usually wear my hair, haha.

cuff me

i want bangles!! i don't think i could cover my arms in them because i absolutely hate the sound when they clunk together. my only problem with jewelry is i tend to forget to put it on. and when i do put certain things on, they always come off (earrings & bracelets mostly.) i've been searching around and have found some that i like as well as some cheaper alternitives to some unbelievably pricey ones ($4000+for a bracelet? i'll have to pass.) i really like kenneth jay lane, although it seems everyone else does too. i'm a sucker for anything that sparkles. i also love anything big and gaudy, which makes the gold clamper from day-lab pretty much perfect!

9 days and counting

i was talking to a friend the other day and asked her if she was excited for Hairspray, to which she replied, "no." i couldn't believe it. how can you NOT be excited for this movie masterpiece? you might think i'm joking, but i kid you not, I AM SO EXCITED! i don't usually get very excited for movies, but i love musicals!! at first i was pretty disappointed that they were even remaking this movie. i don't know if i can watch john travolta butcher edna turnblad. considering the cast has quite a few well known names i wish they would have kept harvey fierstein, who originated edna on broadway. but since they didn't give me harvey i'm pretty happy to see christopher walken!!

if you like hairspray, you probably shouldn't check out any of his other films. they can not be compared. the critics called pink flamingos "one of the most vile, stupid and repulsive films ever made" and i have to agree. the first time i watched it, it was so bad i had to turn it off. it took 5 more years to get the courage to try it again. it's campy and gross, but that's john waters and i love it! if you do like hairspay, i would suggest priscilla, queen of the desert, little shop of horrors & welcome to the dollhouse!

maybe next time

today i've come across an absurd amount of things i like that are sold. i feel like i can't even talk about them because they are no longer available. but i'm not going to let the sold sign stop me from sharing some of my finds and you too can feel bad that you missed them. but because i'm such a nice person i'll include in stock goods as well!!

keiko (who designs, sews & models the clothes) has some pretty cute one-of-a-kind creations at postlapsaria, but no longer has this patchwork babydoll dress. but she does have this yellow & green babydoll (towards the bottom)!!! there are also tons of tops that are still available, but you'll have to hurry.

i just came across ribstein & wicox and must say i was pretty sad to see that these awesome horseshoe flats were sold out because at $24 i would have got them in a heartbeat. but then i saw that they were a size 7 and knew they would have never fit in the first place. so sad. as i searched the site i was drawn to this acid washed denim skirt named after a character on one of the greatest shows ever, Saved by the Bell!!

i LOVE this cherry halter top by Michele Lau, but unfortunately it's sold old. luckily cut & paste has the same style but in a different print with this hawaiian halter!! they're also out of erica weiner's wolf tooth necklace but dottyspeck's wishbone necklaces are in stock!

naughty secretary club is all out of these revamped sweet necklaces (i like it because it says sweet,) but they have these pretty pretty pirate necklaces, (fourth one down) which are pretty, pretty!

of course the chloe triple strap flats are selling out everywhere, but they still have a few at intermix. but of course they're sold out of MY SIZE!! (there's always the knockoffs) they do have the patent buckle pumps!
